Spanish Language Learning Goals for 2009

Every year I like to set goals when it comes to my Spanish language learning. This year I would like to share them with you.

Goal #1 – Listen to the SpanishPod podcasts—all three (main, lesson review, dialogue only) as well as look over the transcripts. I know if I could just do this on a regular basis, my Spanish would improve greatly. Truly, it’s like a one-stop shop for language learners.*

Goal #2 – Listen to other podcasts such as ShowTime Spanish, Español Segunda Lengua Para Todos, and online radio using RadioBeta.

Goal #3 – In addition to reading in Spanish, I will also read aloud for at least 10 minutes every day. This one is easy since I kind of do it already—not every day, but I would say at least 3 times a week.

Goal #4 – Communicate more in Spanish with my boys. This includes more conversation, reading aloud, and playing using the language.

Goal #5 – Set up an intercambio. There is nothing like speaking the language to improve it.

That’s it! I think five is enough. I may add a couple more, but I think this should keep me busy. How about you? What are your goals for learning or teaching Spanish in 2009? Do you have any new strategies you might try in the classroom or at home? Please share them in the comments section.

*Not affiliated with SpanishPod in any way. I just like them a lot! :)

I have an idea! It might help you with your goal and mine too!

You said that you wanted to read aloud each day, set up an intercambio, plus you showed interest in podcasts. My goal is to add original podcasting to my site. Perhaps we could work together!

Currently I'm looking for a person to read aloud and record (perhaps with a free program like Audacity) the cultural articles on my site. Then I will post them as a podcast. Would you be interested in being the "voice" of Blogueando Para Aprender?

I'm with you on #1- SpanishPod is my favorite podcast in Spanish. But I have just a basic membership; I find that just the main audio and the transcripts are enough for me. I do listen to every episode of every level, though, even though my listening level falls around Intermediate, and my speaking level is more Elementary.
One of my other goals is to watch more movies in Spanish, as well as telenovelas- not just Destinos (although I really like that one a lot) but more actual telenovelas from Latin American countries. Buscatv.net is a good place to find them, as well as other programs in Spanish.

@Zacarías - I will send you an email. :)

@HiT - I only subscribe to the basic package as well - the podcasts and transcripts. I'd love to do the others, but it's just not feasible right now.

I normally check out Spanish language movies from the library, but have pretty much exhausted their collection. I would like to watch more programs in Spanish as well. Thanks for including the link. :)
